But First…A Booklist to Pair with These George Washington Coloring Pages!
George Washington by Edgar and Ingri D’aulaire
Another gorgeous book written and illustrated by the talented D’aulaire duo! These books are SUCH a visual treat. They are generous with the words, so younger readers may struggle a bit. These make for excellent, if ambitious, read-alouds. (Probably not for one sitting, ha!)George Washington and the General’s Dog by Frank Murphy
These U.S. History readers are SO appealing! We have several in our bookshelves, even though they are currently well below the reading level of everyone in our home. These readers are still enjoyed and beloved…and even as an adult, I have learned many fun facts from this whole series!My Little Golden Book About George Washington by Lori Haskins Houran
My family is a bit past this phase, but I seem to remember this ADORABLE little Golden Book nestled in our bookshelf several years ago. It is sweet and beautifully illustrated!Who Was George Washington? by Roberta Edwards
I don’t have this one yet, but it has rave reviews! I’m putting it on my wish list. BTW, YMMV with this series…so you may want to vet before turning your kids loose on it!

Majestic Federal Hall: Washington’s Inaugural Site
Federal Hall was a remarkable building located in New York City that played a crucial role in American history. This grand structure served as the first US Capitol, and it was right here that George Washington took his oath of office to become the first President of the United States!
Federal Hall was also the birthplace of the Bill of Rights! The first Supreme Court session and the first Congress were held here, establishing the foundations of American democracy as we know it today. Although the original Federal Hall was demolished in 1812, the Federal Hall National Memorial now stands on the same site as a symbol of our Founding Fathers’ everlasting legacy.

Lovely Mount Vernon: Washington’s Beloved Home
Oh, I just love Mount Vernon! It’s one of my absolute favorite places in the whole United States! This stunning estate nestled along the serene banks of the Potomac River was the beloved home of none other than George Washington, the first President of the United States!
You know what’s even more fascinating about Mount Vernon? George Washington was quite the farmer! He was always experimenting with new techniques to improve agricultural practices, and he even used crop rotation, composting, and manure to help enrich the soil. Can you believe it?
Washington loved his home and spent many happy years there with his dear wife Martha, but he also had to leave for LONG periods of time in service of his country. During the Revolutionary War and his presidency, he was away from Mount Vernon for years at a time. You can just imagine how much he missed his home during those long years!

* Thank you, GW!
According to my family’s lore, George Washington saved my fifth great-grandfather’s life! It’s said that he called him out from the path of cannonball fire (perhaps during the Battle of Monmouth) while he was serving in the Virginia regiments under General Washington’s command. Although the details are a bit hazy, the thought of it is just so cool!
